2. Core Understanding(核心的理解)

Before we dive into the core principles of optimizing your testosterone, you must first understand the basic mechanics and biology behind this molecule, starting with its production. **The Production Process:** The creation of testosterone all starts in the hypothalamus, which is essentially just a small region of the brain and one of the body's key hormonal 'control centers'. The hypothalamus is constantly monitoring the body's testosterone levels and releases gonadotropin-releasing hormone, or GnRH accordingly (if blood testosterone levels get too low). When GnRH is then released, this signals to the pituitary gland to release two key hormones, LH and FSH, which then travel through the bloodstream and into the leydig cells of the testes, stimulating these leydig cells to begin the process of steroidogenesis (the multi-step conversion of cholesterol into testosterone through enzymatic reactions). This steroidogenesis all starts with cholesterol (important) which is then transported into the mitochondria of the Leydig cells and undergoes the following conversions: **Cholesterol** ↓ **Pregnenolone** ↓ **Progesterone** ↓ **Corticosterone** (→ **Aldosterone)** ↓ **17α-Hydroxyprogesterone** ↓ **Androstenedione** ↓ **Testosterone** (→ **Estradiol)** --- **What Happens Next?** Once testosterone is made, it enters the blood and binds to two different transport proteins: either sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) or albumin, with only a small portion of the testosterone remaining unbound as free testosterone (the biologically active form). This free/unbound testosterone then exerts its various effects on target tissues such as muscle tissue, the skin, and the brain by binding to androgen receptors. In other tissues, however, testosterone undergoes further conversion. For example, in hair follicles, the prostate, and skin, the enzyme 5-alpha reductase converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is the more potent androgen that arguably plays an even more key role in the development of masculine traits and attractiveness (more on this in a future guide...) This is essentially the basic science behind testosterone. With this knowledge now in mind, you should be properly equipped to take in the rest of this guide and seriously improve your levels...
