**Mindset Mastery: Presence and Flow**
> "If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present." - Lao Tzu
>
Time is an illusion. Everything that will happen and has happened occurs at the same time. The feeling of time passing is a mere mental construct, and the past and future are just mental constructs that our brains and egos cling to. However, the only thing that truly exists is the Now, the Present moment. In the Now, the illusion of time dissolves, revealing a stillness that underlies all things. You must learn to override your brain, control your thoughts, and truly begin to live in the now. When you do, an awareness surfaces. It's a pure consciousness that is no longer bound by mental limitations. Life becomes truly blissful in this state. Your mind quietens, those thoughts of anxiety or worry depart and you are simply at one with the moment, flowing with the universe. The present is very powerful. When you are present, your vibration is highest and you are most capable of attracting things into your life. When you are present, you are aware of, and have control of all thoughts entering your mind, and can thus quickly dispel ones of negativity or low vibration, and manually implant thoughts of abundance and faith that will benefit your life. If you can learn to naturally make this your predominant state, not only will you live a life of blissful existence, but you will also attract into your life all of your desires with ease.
**Detaching from The Ego: The Key to Presence**
The Ego keeps us locked in thought cycles of comparison, fear, and judgment. The egoic mind is concerned with identity, image, and security, and is constantly seeking approval, validation, and control. When you operate from this place, you will never be satisfied. The ego craves endless achievements, possessions, and external markers of worth, leading us to chase happiness outside of ourselves.
The ego’s influence pulls us away from presence and is what fills our minds with worries about the future, regrets about the past, and often, that nagging sense of inadequacy. It convinces us that fulfillment lies in future goals or in comparing ourselves to others. However, this is a trap, because no external validation or material gain can ever satisfy the ego’s constant need for more. Don't disregard your goals or desires, but keep in mind that you will never truly feel satisfied by your achievements for as long as you associate with the ego.
When you detach from the egoic mind, you access the true natural state of human existence, which is one of joy and fulfilment. You become free from the ego’s grip on our thoughts and emotions, and you begin to live with genuine presence, allowing you to experience the life-changing benefits of simply living in the now.
**How to Develop Detachment and Presence:**
It is, however, very hard to achieve this state of presence and truly start to detach from the egoic mind. Our brains and attention spans have been so overstimulated due to modern-day indulgence, that detaching from your egoic mind and thus being present has become near impossible. Being in this state for more than a few seconds per day for is rare for most. The average person walking around is droning through life, lost in the thoughts of their ego's, on their device or listening to something that is distracting them from the present. Cultivating this state requires true dedication. Here is how to go about this:
**1. Mindfulness**:
- **Meditation:** Begin a daily meditation practice where you sit quietly and observe your breath. Try for at least 5-10 minutes, focusing on the inhale and exhale. If your mind wanders, gently bring it back to the breath. This practice strengthens your ability to observe thoughts without becoming lost in them.
- **Walking Meditation**: During a walk, focus on the sensations in your body—how your feet connect with the ground, the feel of the air, or the sounds around you. Each time your mind drifts, return your attention to the physical act of walking. Walking meditation brings mindfulness into motion, grounding you in the present as you move.
- **Throughout Daily Life**: Practice mindfulness in ordinary tasks. Whether eating, washing dishes, or even brushing your teeth, focus entirely on the activity. Notice the textures, smells, and movements involved. By making daily tasks mindful, you train yourself to stay present, regardless of what you’re doing.
**2. Seek Stillness**:
- **Avoid Constant Stimulation**: Limit daily screen time, particularly social media or any activity that fills your mind with noise. Designate a window of the day without any devices. We recommend making this the morning. Do not check your phone for the first few hours of the day. This means you will begin the day with an empty and clear mind, allowing you to better distance from the ego.
- **Daily Stillness Practice**: Set aside 20 minutes each day to sit quietly with no distractions. No phone, book, or background noise, just you in stillness. In this space, you’ll notice that the need to “do something” is often ego-driven. The more you practice stillness, the more comfortable you become with simply being, detached from the ego’s urge to constantly be occupied.
**3. Gratitude**:
Gratitude raises your vibrational frequency and naturally distances you from the ego. Practicing gratitude, shifts focus from what’s lacking or desired to what is already abundant and fulfilling.
- **Gratitude Journaling**: At the end of each day, write down three things you’re grateful for. These could be anything from a nice meal to a meaningful conversation or even something as simple as the warmth of sunlight. Make gratitude a habit. It will start to become your natural state.
- **Internal Gratitude Practice**: Throughout the day, mentally note moments you feel grateful. Whether it’s a pleasant view, a kind gesture, or a positive outcome, pause and feel the gratitude fully.
- **Gratitude in Relationships**: Express gratitude directly to those around you. Thank people for their efforts, their presence, or even the small things they do. Look them in the eyes, and with presence, thank them.
**4. Mind Observation** -
- Once you develop these three areas, start observing your mind much more closely. As you now know, the egoic mind generates thoughts focused on self-identity, comparison, and judgment. When you start to observe these thoughts rather than identify with them, you create distance between your true self and the ego. This detachment allows you to view these thoughts as mental events rather than truths about who you are.
- Begin by simply noticing when egoic thoughts arise. Thoughts about needing validation, comparing yourself to others, or feelings of inadequacy etc. When you catch these thoughts, pause and silently label them (e.g., “comparison,” “insecurity”), and remind yourself that these are just conditioned responses of the mind, not reflections of your true self.
**Flow: The Universe Has It All Worked Out**
Since time is an illusion and the universe has already woven your destiny into its intricate plan, you should trust wholeheartedly in life’s events. Every experience, setback, or unexpected turn happens for you and is precisely orchestrated to guide you toward the life you desire, a life that actually already exists right now (remember, time is an illusion). When you live aligned with this understanding, setbacks become blessings from the universe, and you can approach them with gratitude, knowing that, overcoming each will bring you closer to your vision. You will be in a constant state of peace and faith, allowing you to maintain a high vibration and seamlessly attract what you desire into life. This, combined with presence and 'letting go' (see below) creates the ultimate state of inner peace. You will truly experience the bliss this life has to offer, whilst achieving your highest desires.
**Learn to Let Go:**
There is a saying that 'What you resist persists'. In life, when we really try to suppress or avoid certain thoughts and emotions we inadvertently give them more power by focusing on them, reinforcing their presence. This resistance creates a negative emotional charge and signals the mind that the issue is important, keeping it active. Left unchecked, these negative emotions will then begin to manifest themselves in your life. Instead of allowing thoughts and feelings to pass naturally, resistance holds them in place, creating a cycle of tension and fixation.
By acknowledging and accepting what arises without judgment, however, simply 'letting go' and trusting in the universe, you can break this cycle, and allow those experiences to fade naturally.
**Balancing Presence and Flow with a Goal-Driven Life: Achieve More**
Regarding this section, there is a balance. It is easy for some to take the ideas here too far, and use them as cope. People often use the idea of 'flow' or 'that the universe has it all planned' to sacrifice action. This should not happen. On the other side of the spectrum, you have others who simply take 'blind action'. They try as hard as they physically can, lacking any direction or presence in the process, and thus get nowhere, often just creating more resistance and repel away good. Action is still crucial for reaching where you desire to be, however, it must be gone about in a certain manner for it to be effective. There is therefore a perfect balance. It is this balancing of action and presence that we will now describe.
Essentially, you have to take what is called aligned yet detached, present action.
**Aligned + detached:** You are acting in complete alignment with your visions and purpose, embodying them in your actions, whilst not consciously obsessing over them in the moment. Placing excessive importance on anything and squeezing towards something actually puts you in a place of 'lack' energetically. It lowers your vibrational frequency, and you end up simply repelling that very goal away from you. You must act in alignment, but whilst being mentally detached, and ideally acting with gratitude, as if you have already achieved that very thing.
**Present action**: You are in a state of doing, and are completely immersed in the moment. You are at one with the task at hand, experiencing every aspect of that present moment, focussing only on the task in front of you. By being present and at one with the tasks, you have control over your thoughts, and can thus create thoughts of gratitude and abundance, whilst taking action, leading to further attraction of your desires.
